MT: Please tell me about the toy, what inspired the custom?
The toy itself, Think-UP is very precise yet so I'll have to play with shapes I already had, and I liked it.
(Milliput, an air-dry sculpting clay) MT: With customizing toys, do you have any DO's or DONT's you would like to share with others that are new to the craft?
Not really, I didn't do so much toys... the only advice i could give is : STAY COOL, DON'T WORK TOO FAST
and DON'T SHAKE!MT: Is it for sale and where can it be seen?
That's a good question... I don't know. It's for an exhibition, Pandora's Toy Box, that Marshhouse sets up : http://marshhouseart.blogspot.com
The exhibition will take place in Charleston, WV tentative location The Good News Garage Gallery, in May.MT: You have quite an array of artistic talent, please tell me about your background in art?
Well, I went in an art school for 6 years before I started my "job", but I don't think it's really linked. I used to be an "Artist" in art school, not a drawer or a designer, in France there's something really pretentious in art, and things are separated. So I didn't draw when I was in art school, I thought that I could draw, design, paint, whatever, for a living, maybe one year after my diploma, when I realized that art in France is sooooo isolated from the rest of life, like "minor", "popular" arts, comics, posters, illustration. I love those, so fuck art. I made a choice, because I had to.
MT: What interests do you have that may inspire you artistically?
Music essentially, books, life. I love to observe people, that's obviously my first inspiration. But I don't even think about inspiration when I read, or live, or see a concert. I think it just sows ideas then they grow up, thats all.
MT: What kind of projects are you currently working on?
I still have to finish a big comic, with a scenarist. It's a 120 pages story, black and white. After that I think I'll hang up for comics a little, it's too long, too recluse, too hard, and I get nuts to work that time on the same thing. So Now, I'm finishing this comic but I also draw posters, illustrations and stuff, I can't focus on just one thing. I'm just super impatient to finish it and to go back to other stuff I really love to do, like painting. I miss painting, it's relaxing.
MT: Your style of artwork could translate into the toy world very well as your custom piece shows, I also noticed a plush wrestler doll on your Flickr page. Do you have any plans to create art toys of your own?
The Wrestler is a collaboration (as the posters are) with Brazo Negro, my printer. But it's the only toy I "created". I wish I could create more of course, I find toys funny and there's so many possibilities with them. But I don't have opportunities for that kind of work yet, maybe later I'd love to!
MT: Do you offer commissions, if so how can you be contacted?
Of course I do! you can contact me via Internet, it's the only way I work, actually.
